We build the base of the pyramid first — movement quality, full range of motion, and work capacity. Higher reps and time under load build denser, more resilient muscle and prepare the body for heavier training.
With the base in place, we add heavier loads with strict attention to form and control. This is where the athlete gets meaningfully, usefully stronger.
Strength becomes speed. Lighter loads moved fast increase force output — tracked with bar speed so every rep hits the right velocity. Athletes don't move slow; we train to run faster, hit harder, and throw harder.
In weight training, bar speed is used to monitor the athlete’s velocity and meet the stimulus needs for each phase of training. During strength, the bar moves slower while increasing the load (weight on the bar). In power, the focus in on the bar speed, so the weight will be lowered to ensure that the correct velocity is being accomplished. As athletes, we do not move slow, our goal is to be more powerful and be able to generate more force so that we can run faster, hit harder, and throw faster, etc.
It does not matter the sport, we train the human body to be more efficient and effective.
